Effects of Covid-19 what does the data say?

Written by Admin | Jun 18, 2020 9:18:14 AM

When we went into lockdown, our team created justifications for Covid-19 in CR.Net’s ordering process so that we could track the impact of this challenging time and the affect it’s had on our clients.

In a recent webinar with YPO, we dived into some of that insight, exploring the numbers behind our client’s recruitment. This has been key to help us make data-driven decisions in partnership with our clients both now and when we need to look back at what happened during this challenging time.

Covid-19 Effects on Temporary Staff: What does the Data Say?

Julian Panter, Business Director at Matrix SCM, used our Business Intelligence and Reporting suites to pull data from CR.Net. In this video below, he dives into that data and explores what the data is saying and the impact that has had on our client base:

What does the Data Say?

Capturing data is key to allow us to make data-driven decisions and to be informed of the impact in the future.

Effects on Order Numbers

To understand what the affects of Covid-19 have been on recruitment with our clients, we explored the number of orders being raised through CR.Net. An order is when a Hiring Manager releases a role to recruitment agencies through CR.Net:

“Prior to Covid-19, Matrix SCM saw 600 orders raised each week. Today we see between 350-400 raised. As of 2020, we saw a 50% decrease in new orders raised between March and April, then a further 40% decrease between April and May. This may seem like a dramatic reduction, but one thing we did notice was that the spend analysis was the same.”

Although we are seeing just over half the usual orders being raised by our clients per a week, the spend and hours remained the same. On top of that, we have seen the number of workers hired remain the same; at an average of 1.7 candidates hired per order.

Types of Roles and Redeployment

As an organisation, we manage all job categories for clients. With the decrease in order numbers, we thought we should explore what the affects have been on the different types of roles that our clients are recruiting for.

“We have seen an affect on professional areas (interims). In January, we saw 51 orders, and in May, we are down to 21. For example, for Engineers and Surveying, we had 51 in January and 1 in May. However Social Care (Qualified/Unqualified) and manual labor have still been our highest category of orders.”

Extensions

With the decrease in order numbers, it’s not surprising to see large volumes of extensions as our clients have looked to keep existing staff on-site.

“Spend and hours have remained static throughout this period. We have seen a huge increases in extensions. From a sample of 15 clients, comparing extensions from this time last year to this year, extensions have increased by 150%.”

Julian Panter, Business Director, Matrix SCM

From speaking to our public sector clients, extensions have been a great way to support their existing workforce and ensure that they have had cover where needed during these challenging times.

Overview

Capturing data is key to allow us to make data-driven decisions now and be informed of the impact in the future. CR.Net is built to capture this information – providing full visibility of clients’ spend with reports and business intelligence to help them take control of their recruitment.
